Modern Tailors Company was founded in July 1948 by Magan Bhoola. The business started operating from a stable converted into a makeshift shop in Prinsloo Street Pretoria.

In 1974, due to Apartheid, the business was forced to relocate to Marabastad, where it is still trading today.

In 1977, the business evolved from a tailoring business, that customised clothing for men, into an outfitting retailer.

In 1984, the business started its expansion by acquiring Benares Tailors and Outfitters. Thereafter, Danny’s Outfitters was acquired in 1991, followed soon after by Hardy’s in 1999.

In May 2007, the company was instrumental in establishing an independent business named, City Trendz.
